The National Green Tribunal on Tuesday ordered airlines to pay a fine of ₹50,000 as environmental compensation if they emptied their toilet tanks during flights. It ruled that planes will undergo surprise inspections "to see that human waste tanks are not empty." It was hearing a plea wherein a retired army officer claimed planes were dumping excreta over his house.
