Akasa Air has confirmed it will commence operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), becoming the second major airline after IndiGo to do so. The announcement strengthens confidence in the twin-airport strategy for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). NMIA is being developed to relieve air traffic pressure from the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
