Al-Qaeda may fly explosive-packed airplane into a US city: CIA warned before 9/11

CIA-released classified intelligence files show repeated warnings ahead of 9/11 attacks that al-Qaeda planned to strike US. In July 1998, intelligence indicated Osama bin Laden was interested in attacks using chemical agents. A September 1998 report warned al-Qaeda “may fly an explosive-packed airplane into a US city.” Intelligence also found hijacking-related training among bin Laden’s network.
