Alfred Nobel, inventor of the dynamite, made its first public demonstration on July 14, 1867, at a village called Merstham in England. During the demonstration, Nobel set fire to sticks of dynamite, threw packets of the explosives from a cliff, and detonated it in various ways to demonstrate the dynamite's capabilities and safety.
