In an internal memo, COO Brad Lightcap said OpenAI's board didn't fire Sam Altman due to malfeasance or anything related to financial, business, safety or privacy practices. There was a breakdown in communication between Altman and the board, Lightcap added. "We've had...conversations with the board to...better understand the reasons," he claimed, adding that the firing "took us all by surprise".
