Amazon contacts laid off employees to rehire them for AI, cloud roles: Report

Amazon recruiters are contacting former employees, including some who were laid off, for openings in AI, machine learning and cloud computing, Business Insider reported. The outreach includes initiatives like AWS VP Swami Sivasubramanian's "Swami's Boomerang Reengagement Initiative". The company laid off 14,000 employees in October 2025 and 16,000 more in January 2026.
