Americans lost $2.1 billion to social media scams in 2025, according to a report by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The maximum number of people reported financial losses from scams originating on Facebook. WhatsApp and Instagram were a distant second and third, respectively. About $1.1 billion was lost to investment scams on social media, the FTC data said.
