Barar village, almost midway between Lahore and Amritsar, holds a significant place in Sikh history. After the rescue of Mata Kaulan from the clutches of an ill-tempered Maulvi of Lahore, the Sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind, stayed at this village while on his way to the holy city. The place where he stayed is now home to Gurdwara Gurusar Barar.
