The government will soon set up National Coral Reef Research Institute (NCRRI) in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, an officer said. He added that coral reefs play a pivotal role in providing natural coastal protection against storms. The first-of-its-kind centre, being built at a cost of ₹120 crore, will serve as nodal and monitoring agency for coral reef research across India.
