Animals found living under ocean floor at depth of 2,500 metres

For the first time, scientists have discovered animal life beneath the ocean floor at depth of 2,500 metres, challenging the belief that only microbes inhabit the subseafloor. The animals like tubeworms were found near deep hydrothermal vents. "Our discovery shows that animal life extends into shallow ocean's crust," said study co-author Sabine Gollner, expanding the understanding of marine life.
