Antibiotics in pregnancy may raise newborns’ GBS risk: Study

Research by Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and the University of Antwerp in Belgium shows that antibiotic use during pregnancy may raise the risk of newborns developing Group B Streptococcus (GBS) infection, especially when taken in the early third trimester. A study of over 1 million births found higher GBS rates in infants prenatally exposed to antibiotics.
