According to a NASA study, intense carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are being driven by an increasingly warming Arctic Ocean, which was once thought to be one of Earth's critical carbon sinks. Up to 180 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide are thought to be absorbed annually by the icy waters of the Arctic.
