Are anti-malaria drugs antibiotics and how do they differ?

Though both treat infections, antibiotics target bacteria while antimalarial drugs are specifically designed to kill Plasmodium parasites. Health expert Dr Saumya explains that classic antimalarials like chloroquine and artemisinin disrupt parasite biology, whereas antibiotics act on bacterial structures. Only certain antibiotics are repurposed in combination therapies for malaria.
