German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday inaugurated the new headquarters of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) which covers an area equivalent to the size of 36 football fields. Situated in the capital Berlin, the BND headquarters has been built at a cost of over €1 billion. Germany "needs a strong and efficient foreign intelligence service more than ever," Merkel said.
