Argentina raises interest rates three times in eight days

Argentina's central bank raised the country's interest rates to 40% on Friday in a bid to defend the country's currency, the peso, which has lost a quarter of its value over the past year. This is the third rise in the interest rates in eight days. Argentina is in the middle of a pro-market economic reform programme.
