Arizona's Apache trout removed from endangered list after 50 years
Arizona's Apache trout was delisted from the endangered species list in 2024 after 50+ years of conservation. Populations grew from 14 to 30 genetically pure groups across 175 miles of habitat. Barriers blocking nonnative trout and chemical treatments drove recovery. Species remains conservation-reliant due to wildfire risk and small population sizes.
