Kolkata Police has said on X that all legal procedures were followed in the arrest of Pune law student Sharmishta Panoli from Haryana's Gurugram, after some social media narratives called the arrest unlawful. The police added, "A warrant of arrest was issued by the...court, following which she was apprehended lawfully." She was thereafter produced before a magistrate, police added.
