Three of India’s five southern states have recorded a decline in birth registrations over the past decade, with Tamil Nadu seeing the steepest fall at 21%, followed by Kerala at 18%. This contrasts with the national trend, where India as a whole saw a 13.1% increase in registered births between 2013 and 2022.
