Asiatic Lion population in India rose by 29% between 2015 and 2020

The Asiatic Lion population in India rose 28.87% from 523 in 2015 to 674 in 2020, the Environment Ministry said on World Wildlife Day on Monday. Their habitat now covers 30,000 sq km area, with 344 lions in Gir Protected Area. PM Narendra Modi announced that the 16th Asiatic Lion Population Estimation will be conducted in 2025.
