Ahead of 2021 Assembly elections, BJP-led Assam government announced free rice and electricity in Budget 2020-21. Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced free rice to beneficiaries under National Food Security Act (NFSA), which will benefit nearly 57 lakh families. He added free electricity up to 30 units and ₹830 per month to nearly 27 lakh poor families will be given.
