Assam quake linked to Kopili Fault, no aftershocks: NCS

The 5.1-magnitude earthquake that struck central Assam on January 5 was triggered by tectonic activity near the Kopili Fault, the National Centre for Seismology said. The quake, centred in Morigaon at a depth of 50 km, caused light to moderate shaking across the region. No aftershocks have been recorded so far, and no major damage was reported.
