Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "Aurangzeb is not a hero of India or of any section of Indian society. So, there is no reason to garland him." He clarified that Aurangzeb's tomb is a protected site and falls under the jurisdiction of Archaeological Department of Central government. He added that any decision regarding it can't be made by state government.
