Australia detects first H5N1 bird flu case in local seabird

Australia has recorded its first case of H5N1 bird flu in a local seabird found on South Australian coast. Until now, confirmed H5 bird flu cases in Australia had been limited to migratory subantarctic seabirds. Agriculture Minister Julie Collins called the development "concerning" but not unexpected, adding there was no evidence of mass deaths or spread to other animal populations.
