Australia may let users turn off social media algorithms

Social media platforms in Australia could be required to let users turn off personalised algorithms under draft laws to be unveiled this week. The proposed rules would let users either keep AI-driven recommendations or switch them off and see only posts from accounts they follow, in chronological order. Platforms failing to comply could face penalties of up to $72 million.
