Australia's rainforests releasing more CO2 than they absorb: Study

Australia's tropical rainforests, which previously acted as a natural carbon dioxide sink, are now emitting more carbon than they absorb. Researchers using satellite data and ground monitoring found that climate extremes, rising tree mortality and slower regeneration have increased emissions. With drought, heat and decay releasing stored carbon, the forests are turning from sink to source.
