Auto, cab drivers get 1 year extension to learn Marathi in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government has extended by one year the deadline for autorickshaw and taxi drivers to compulsorily learn Marathi. The decision follows a three-day strike by Mumbai's autorickshaw drivers starting August 24 against the directive. State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik defended the move, saying, "This is a government that creates employment, not one that takes away employment."
