Fertility doctor Namratha was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly handing over another couple's child to a couple seeking surrogacy. She allegedly collected ₹30-35 lakh from the hopeful parents for the surrogacy procedure and paid around ₹80,000-90,000 to the infant's biological parents. A DNA test showed that the child wasn't related to the couple, following which they filed a complaint.
