Bail, custody and release rules in criminal cases

An accused may seek anticipatory bail from the High Court to avoid immediate arrest, and once an FIR is filed must be produced before a magistrate within 24 hours. Police custody can extend upto 15 days and judicial custody up to 90 days, after which default bail may apply. Convicts may receive furlough for short leave or parole for emergencies.
