Baker's yeast, used in bread and beer, can survive Mars-like conditions, researchers have found. When exposed to shock waves and soaked in Martian salts, its growth slowed down, but it survived due to protective ribonucleoprotein (RNP) condensates, little stress shields, inside its cells. This discovery could help scientists use yeast as a kind of stress sensor for future space missions.
