From today, the IT city bangalore officially becomes Bengaluru and Mysore becomes Mysuru. Twelve of Karnataka's major towns and cities revert to their old Kannada names after the Union Home Ministry this month cleared a proposal made by the state nine years ago, in 2006. The other cities include Belgaum (to Belagavi), Mangalore (to Mangaluru) and Gulbarga (to Kalaburagi).
