The RBI has in a reply to an RTI query revealed that over 6,800 cases of bank fraud involving an unprecedented ₹71,500 crore were reported in 2018-19. This is 74% higher than the amount involved in 5,916 such cases reported in 2017-18. In the last 11 fiscal years, 53,334 cases of fraud involving ₹2.05 lakh crore were reported, RBI said.
