Banks earn ₹19,000 cr from minimum balance penalties in FY23-25

Indian banks collected around ₹19,000 crore from customers as penalties for failing to maintain the required minimum average balance in their accounts between FY2022-23 and FY2024-25, according to data presented in Parliament. Private sector banks collected around ₹11,000 crore, while public sector banks collected about ₹8,093 crore. HDFC Bank collected the highest amount among private banks.
