Banks reluctant to cut rates as returns shrink

The RBI has cut the benchmark lending rate by 50 basis points in 2015 to 7.5%, but consumers are yet to receive the benefits as 43 out of 47 banks haven't lowered their base lending rates. Banks cite lowered returns as the reason for their delay in dropping rates, with their profitability falling to 0.81% - the lowest since 2007.
