NYU neuroscientist Nikolay Kukushkin said on the podcast that to lower dementia risk, people should use their brains in unexpected ways. "Barefoot walking has a neuroprotective effect," he said, as shoes stop our soles from sensing much. New sensations force the brain to recalibrate. "If you want to change, you have to find things that are different," he added.
