The Battle of Saragarhi was fought between 21 members of the 36th Sikh regiment and an army of 10,000 Afghan soldiers on September 12, 1897. The battle took place in the Tirah region of North-West Frontier Province (now in Pakistan), which the Sikhs were trying to defend. The battle is known as one of the greatest 'last stands' in history.
