In a matrimonial case, the Supreme Court questioned a man's claim that he earned only ₹9,000/month and can't afford to pay ₹12,000/month maintenance to estranged wife. "Beg, borrow, steal, that's the principle. To maintain your wife," the court said, adding, "Who earns ₹9,000 these days?" The woman had challenged lower court's order awarding a one-time settlement of ₹6 lakh.
