Belva Lockwood ran for President even before women could vote

Belva Lockwood was the second woman to be a formal US Presidential candidate, nearly 40 years before women got the right to vote. She was a presidential candidate twice for the general election and the first female lawyer to fight for women's suffrage in the US Supreme Court. The first woman to formally run for office was Victoria Woodhull.
