Bengal may pay schools to buy eggs for midday meals amid backlash
short by Bhuvnesh Ojha / on Monday, 29 June, 2026
The West Bengal government is mulling Odisha model of paying schools an extra amount to buy eggs for midday meals if they so choose, officials said. The government, last week, tasked ISKCON with providing food for students in 1,800 schools. The organisation has refused to serve any non-vegetarian food, including eggs. The development has sparked controversy in the state.
