Beyond Haber-Bosch: Making fertilizer out of thin air

The Haber-Bosch process, which generates ammonia, feeds the world but consumes 1% of global energy and emits 300 million tons of CO2 every year. Indian researchers engineered a tin-doped catalyst that breaks nitrogen triple bonds under natural sunlight. This technique increases the ammonia production rate by 10.9 times compared to conventional methods.
