Bhimbetka rock shelters in MP date back 30,000 years

The Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka, located in Madhya Pradesh, date back to over 30,000 years. Discovered in around 1958, the region has more than 600 caves which comprise numerous prehistoric rock paintings. It was first mentioned in the Indian archaeological records in 1888 as a Buddhist site. The site was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.
