The Bhopal gas tragedy took place at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant on December 2, 1984, wherein over 5,00,000 people were exposed to methyl isocyanate gas. The casualties caused due to the gas leak are still a matter of conflict as government reports suggested around 4,000 deaths, while some estimates say over 16,000 died in the tragedy.
