BHU asked to pay environment compensation of ₹2.65 cr for illegally cutting 33 trees

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) directed Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) to complete proceedings within three months to levy an environmental compensation of over ₹2.65 crore on Banaras Hindu University (BHU). This comes after NGT found BHU guilty of illegally cutting 33 trees inside its campus. The BHU has undertaken a compensatory afforestation drive by planting 978 saplings.
