A large UK Biobank study found a strong, bidirectional link between type 2 diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease. IBD patients had a significantly higher risk of developing diabetes, while diabetes patients faced increased IBD risk. The risk rose with disease severity, highlighting shared inflammatory pathways and the need for cross-screening in both patient groups.
