Billionaire investor George Soros has transferred $18 billion to his Open Society Foundations, which works to promote democracy, human rights and freedom of the press. It was founded by Soros in 1979 and operates in more than 100 countries. The $18 billion figure amounts to nearly 80% of Soros' total net worth which stands at $23 billion, according to Forbes.
