BITS Pilani celebrates its annual global meetup BITSians' Day

Celebrated on the first Friday of August every year, BITSians' Day is BITS Pilani's multi-location global alumni reunion. Since its inception in 2013, the participation has constantly increased, with BITSians' Day 2016 being organised across 180 locations in 25 countries. The event also witnesses all the BITSians across the globe taking part in "wear your BITS T-shirt to work" day.

Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma amid tensions over border issues, following which he had a meeting with the former's foreign secretary Jashim Uddin for around 45 minutes, PTI reported. Earlier, BSF faced opposition from Border Guard Bangladesh over the construction of fences along certain areas along Indo-Bangla border, following which the two forces held a meeting.

Mumbai's 14-year-old opener Ira Jadhav smashed 346*(157) against Meghalaya in Alur in the Women's Under-19 One Day Trophy. Jadhav smashed 42 fours and 16 sixes in her innings. The record for the highest individual score in a women's Under-19 match belongs to South Africa's Lizelle Lee, who scored an unbeaten 427 against Kei while playing for Mpumalanga in 2010.

Devajit Saikia elected new BCCI secretary, replaces Jay Shah

Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia have been elected as Secretary and Treasurer of the BCCI, respectively. The duo were elected unopposed during BCCI Special General Meeting. Saikia succeeds Jay Shah, who vacated Secretary's post after becoming ICC Chairman. Meanwhile, Prabhtej replaces Ashish Shelar, who resigned as BCCI Treasurer after being sworn in as minister in Maharashtra government.

India record their highest-ever total in women's ODI cricket history

India put up total of 370/5 in the second women's ODI against Ireland in Rajkot on Sunday to record their highest-ever total in ODI cricket. Jemimah Rodrigues top-scored for India with 102(91), while Harleen Deol scored 89(84). India's previous highest total in ODI cricket was 358, which they recorded twice, once in 2017 and once in 2024.

Ahead of the space docking experiment, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) conducted a trial with the SpaDeX satellites, SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target), approaching within three metres of each other. The satellites were later moved to safer distances. The ISRO stated that the docking process will proceed only after it analyses the collected data.

The principal of a government school in Tamil Nadu's Dharmapuri has been suspended after a video allegedly showing students cleaning the toilets surfaced on social media. Parents claimed that their children returned home "exhausted" due to their assigned tasks which also include fetching water and cleaning school premises. Around 150 tribal children study at the school, India Today reported.
