The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, replacing the CrPC 1973, introduces definitions for bail, bail bond, and bond. Under Section 479, first-time offenders may now get bail after serving one-third of the maximum sentence as undertrials. However, bail is denied if multiple cases are pending.
