Bodyguard who saved Putin from bear made State Council secretary

President Vladimir Putin appointed Alexei Dyumin, 51, an aide and former bodyguard, as secretary of the State Council, an advisory body developing strategic domestic and foreign policy goals. This council includes Kremlin and government officials, lawmakers, and regional leaders. Dyumin, who served in Putin's security detail since 1999, once claimed to have protected Putin from a bear.
