A worker at Martin Asphalt firm's South Houston terminal died after a tank holding 50,000 gallons of tar at nearly 100°C ruptured, burying him under approximately three feet of the boiling liquid. Neighbours reported hearing a loud explosion before black tar rained down on surrounding streets and vehicles. The authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion.
