Bolivia approves 1st same-sex union following 2-year legal battle

Bolivia's civil registry has authorised the country's first same-sex civil union after a two-year legal battle. Authorities had initially denied David Aruquipa and Guido Montaño the right to register their union in 2018. While the Bolivian Constitution still doesn't allow same-sex unions, the two argued successfully that the prohibition on their union violated international human rights standards.
