BR Ambedkar lost in India's 1st general elections

Social reformer and political leader BR Ambedkar lost to Congress' Narayan Kajrolkar contesting from Bombay in independent India's first general elections. The first vote in the elections was cast 65 years ago on October 25, 1951, and the Congress party came to power winning 364 of the 489 seats. India has held 16 general elections to the Parliament since then.
